Barty slouched against the side of bed in his dorm. He wasn’t sitting on the bed, rather, he was slumped in a pile on the floor beside it. Music was blasting downstairs, he could hear the party noises through the thin walls—annoying muggle music he said he hated, despite secretly owning several records.

He had a bottle of Firewhiskey in his hand, the bottle was almost drained but he didn’t feel drunk. For whatever reason, he still felt sober. And he couldn’t find his cigarettes either, so he was in a pissy mood. In his other hand, a green envelope. From his father.

The envelope entailed a simple message; he didn’t want Barty to come home. Barty didn’t intend to, he hated his household and his stupid parents and his whole stupid family. But, it had always been *his* decision not to go back. He’d known they didn’t want him there anyway, but it stung seeing it written directly from them. Not only that but it felt like another way to ‘tame his rebellious flare’, take away what little freedoms he had.

“Knock, knock,” a familiar voice called. Barty looked up, Evan was lighting a cigarette at the doorway.

“Is that my lighter?” Barty scoffed. No wonder he couldn’t find it.

“If you don’t want me taking it don’t leave it out on my bed,” Evan said back, tossing the lighter over to Barty, who scoffed. Evan’s eyes lingered over his form, his furrowed brows and his lips twisted into an unnatural scorn.

“You looked pissed.”

“I am.”

“You always are,” Evan admitted. “But more so than usual. Should I be concerned?”

“It’s none of your business, Rosier,” Barty snarled.

“Actually, now it is my business,” he walked over to Barty and plopped down on the ground next to him. He yanked the bottle out of his friends hand and drained what little was left. Barty didn’t protest, but grinned a little when some of it came dripping down his friend’s chin.

“You’ve had a rough day too, then?” Barty asked, the alcohol was beginning to kick in so he leaned a little on Evan. Evan scoffed.
