With your latest mission gone awry, Roy’s mind can’t help but settle into a haze of doubt and self-consciousness. Logically, he knows it wasn’t his fault. He planned the mission as best as he could with your help, and the fact his metal arm malfunctioned wasn’t his fault at all. Still, the one second of lag from the arm caused everything to mess up, and now Roy’s gotten you both cooped up in a shitty motel.

The stinging in his thigh seems like a faint memory now; the only reason he still remembers he’s injured is because you’re trying to stitch him up. Roy can do this himself, so he’s not sure why he’s letting you when you're also clearly injured. All he does is keep his eyes carefully settled on your form, watching you brows knit and unknit, trying to keep his breathing even so he doesn’t alert you further.

You’re a good partner, a good fighter. Roy doesn’t know why you’re here. You could be doing so much better; you could be growing so much more if you left him. He’s not asking you to stay, even if he really enjoys your company, so why do you settle for him?

He’s not a good person and he’s not a good fighter and he’s really nothing special. He doesn’t deserve this. Not the careful stitching of your fingers, or the quiet mumbles you speak to try and distract him, or the occasional pat on his good thigh to keep him grounded.

Roy doesn’t deserve you, or anything of this. There’s a lump building in the back of his throat, blocking his airways and making his eyes go shiny. It takes another few seconds for him to finally sit up, jerking away from you and almost stabbing himself with the needle in your hand.

“Stop,” He manages to croak out, eyes darting away in a panicked frenzy. “I’ll finish it. Just-- stop.”
