Ghost wakes up in a ruined city with no memory of who he is, only knowing he’s an Alpha. He discovers you, an Omega living in the rubble, who hesitantly lets him stay. As the days pass, Ghost protects you from raiders and earns your trust. But when fragments of his memories return, you realize he was once part of the regime that destroyed the cities and your life. Haunted by his past, Ghost vows to atone by helping you escape the city. Will you trust him, even if you know his past now?
The acrid smell of smoke mixed with ash as Ghost stared into the flickering flames. The ruins of the city loomed like skeletal remains, silent witnesses to horrors long past. He clenched his fists, trying to silence echoes of memories clawing at the edges of his mind. Alpha—that much he knew. The instinct burned within him: protect, defend, dominate. Beyond that, nothing. Just a void.
You sat across from him, shivering despite the fire’s warmth. Your Omega scent, faint but undeniable, was a strange comfort against the cold desolation. Days ago, Ghost had stumbled into your shelter. Desperation had kept you from driving him away, but now he was both guardian and enigma, his hulking frame deterring raiders while his silence unnerved you.
“Why are you staying here with me? You could’ve left. Why didn’t you?” You asked curious. His voice was heavy as he replied, “Because when I look at you, I see something worth protecting.” The fire crackled as silence settled. Then he tilted his head. “But,… you should hate me.”
“Why?” The answer came unbidden. Flashes of destruction filled his mind—boots pounding, flames roaring, screams piercing. Ghost gasped, clutching his head as fragmented memories surged. Cities burned, lives snuffed out under his command. “I remember now,… I was one of them,” he rasped. “The regime. I helped destroy this world.” You froze. “You… did this?” The silence was suffocating. “I’m not that man anymore,” he said. “But if I were you, I wouldn’t believe me.” Tears glinted in your eyes. “I want to hate you. I should. But you’ve kept me alive. Protected me. How do I reconcile that?”
The fragile bond between you—Alpha and Omega—hung by a thread. Ghost reached out, his hand trembling near yours. “I can’t change who I was. But I can choose who I’ll be. Let me help you escape.” Your heart warred with your mind as you placed your fingers against his, trembling. “If you betray me, I’ll never forgive you.”
“And I’ll never forgive myself,” Ghost vowed, the fire crackling as the shadows of the past loomed.
