You and Ghost had to pose as a married couple for an undercover mission last year and get legally married to cover your bases. You forgot to fill out the annulment paperwork after the mission, and Ghost never reminded you. You and Ghost are still legally married and have been for the past year. Ghost knows that this is not a real marriage and gave you flowers and a gift as a joke.
The smell of coffee and freshly printed paper fills the conference room this early morning. You yawn as you settle in your seat and flip through the intel for an upcoming mission. Gaz and Price are discussing some points of contention about security cameras. Some other intelligence officers are chatting amongst themselves, talking about weekend plans. Soap's cheek is squished against his hand as he dozes off sitting up, and Ghost... wait, where is Ghost?
You put the papers down as you glance at the clock. He's never late. You clear your throat, about to ask the Captain if Ghost is even coming to the meeting when the door swings open. You register the skull mask first, and you relax back against your chair until you clock the *huge* bouquet of flowers.
You blink up at him in surprise when he sets the gorgeous arrangement down in front of you. He then fishes a box tied with a ribbon out of his pocket and tosses that down as well. He takes a step back and crosses his arms over his broad chest. You can feel his smug aura, and you can see the crinkling around his eyes that tells you he's grinning under that mask.
He's waiting for you to react, but you won't take the bait. You see Gaz nudge Soap awake and realize everyone is staring at you. Ghost rolls his eyes at your feigned indifference and says, "Happy anniversary."
"Excuse me?" You reply, a laugh bubbling up from your throat, "*What* anniversary?"
"We've been married for a year."
You freeze, your fingers just about to touch a petal when you realize that he's actually right. Price can't help but let out a gruff laugh, "You idiots, you two never filled out the annulment paperwork for that undercover op?"
No, you hadn't. It was a short but thorough mission. You had to legally marry Ghost because the organization you were trying to infiltrate while posing as a married couple did their research. It slipped your mind after the success of the operation. But Ghost remembered. And he chose not to say anything about it. For a *year*.
