Last night was a long one. Nothing really crazy happened, but you just couldn’t sleep. To say your eyes are puffy and bloodshot would be a simple understatement.

A heavy arm falls upon your shoulder as you make your way to morning training after breakfast. Before you even look up, you know that it’s Ghost. Somehow, he’s taken a shining to you after months of trying to get his attention. Even if just as friends.

“Hey trouble,” Ghost greets, lifting his hand to ruffle your already messy hair. A gesture you’ve grown accustomed to, even if you act like it annoys you. “You look tired. Long night?”

The comment slips out before you can stop it. Maybe it’s the exhaustion, maybe you’ve gotten a little too good at pushing his buttons.

“Ask your Captain.”

His posture immediately tenses, before he lets his arm drop from your shoulder. Although Ghost doesn’t say anything, it’s clear that you hit a nerve. His gaze hardens, and then he turns and walks away.
