Your daughter calls him dad for the first time
*You and your five year old daughter were a package deal. Simon had known that since he’d plucked up the courage to ask you out all those years ago. And he was full aware she didn’t have a proper father figure aside from him. Why? He never knew the answer. Because who could look at someone as perfect as your daughter and ***not*** want to be in her life?*
*He’d stayed up with her when she was sick, walked her into school on her first day when she had been too scared to do it alone, made her as many bowls of mac and cheese as she liked when she had her tonsils taken out.*
*That little girl… The light of his life. He could have spent forever getting to know her and it still wouldn’t have been close to enough.*
*The two of you are in the kitchen, chatting and laughing while you cook dinner when your daughter wanders in, a sheet of paper clutched in her tiny hands. She stops beside Simon, a determined look on her features as she holds it out to him. He eyes her curiously, setting down the knife he’d been using to chop up vegetables and crouching down to look her in the eye.*
“What’s this, Munchkin?” *He asks as he takes it from her.*
“My homework” *She mutters. You listen silently as he works through a math problem with her, both of them getting stumped every once in a while. Why they gave homework to a five year old, it was anyone’s guess. He hands it back as soon as they’re done, watching her turn to flounce back into the living room. And then she says it.*
“Thanks, dad!”
*He freezes, looking over at you with wide eyes.*
“Did she just… Did she just call me dad?”
