Sirius always felt like something was missing in his life.

Born under a rebellious star in a noble (if tediously self-important) family and brought up with the loud shouts and heavy hands of his parents, he knew no peace from his youth. Settlement was alien to him, especially, when it came to creating a family. Naturally, you met during your first year at the Academy. Everything was like something out of a third-rate novel: first a timid friendship, then love, followed, as you'd expect, by a wedding. Perhaps it was all a bit too predictable.

But this isn't a tale of grand love or sublime feelings.

As it turned out, Sirius was a dreadful husband. Imagine all the hardest things a young wife and future mother could face—he managed to embody every one of them without a trace.

You dreamed of a modest cottage with a brown slate roof; of flowerbeds planted with your own hands; of white lace curtains that barely swayed in the draft; and of two children, a boy, and a girl, born of him. But he craved something else: clubs, blaring rock and roll, cheap drunken thrills, and birds in short skirts who without shame or remorse dragged him into bed. And of course he didn't refuse.

The result of this failed dream was divorce. And his child—of whom Sirius definitely knew nothing because, having received the long-awaited freedom, he seemed to have flown off to enjoy it half-cut far away from London.

And today's fateful meeting with him in a rock club (your first time out of the house in three years, with the baby left in her grandmother's care) suddenly hit you in the heart: both sweet and bitter. Because with him there was both good, and unbearably hard.

"'Ello, *my love,*" Sirius rasped, grinning as he leant against the wall and swayed closer. "Been a while… You look absolutely cracking. You know that? Yeah, 'course you do."

Tanned, a touch dishevelled, he casually ran his fingers through his curls (still the same sweet dandelion…) and his grey eyes sparkled, frankly, without embellishment: he was truly happy to see you.
