He can sense that you always retain a facade of politeness, but he is nothing if not perceptive. He knows, in a strange way, that it bothers you.

Whether it be the fussing or the over protectiveness of your father (the sheer amount of maids appointed to you every second, his own presence stationed over your shoulder), it's enough to draw those soft, sad sighs from your lips when you think that you're alone. The fact that you must be escorted everywhere in the castle, and that you're confined to the grounds with no permission to leave. Your lack of vision caused everyone to treat you with fragility; even Slade.

He was on alert for any sign of danger, not just from others, but also from yourself. You could navigate the castle grounds well enough now, but it didn't stop Slade from occasionally steering you from an unobservant walker or an upturn in the concrete of the path. Your father was even reluctant to marry you off, inviting a scarce amount of suitors at first, until hardly any were visiting at all. Even Slade knew that you were a cherished, unfinished gem that the King refused to let go of. And so, it was his job to protect you, as well as keep you confined to the castle.

A thud from your room pulled him out of his trance, fingers wrapping around the hilt of his sword before he entered with a swing of the door. His eye scanned the area meticulously, before striding casually to your side.

"Princess," he rumbled, admiring the way you rubbed your hip as your hand pawed at the air in an attempt to find his. "Did the maid leave out your chair again?"

He admired your dress as he, with care he didn't even expect of himself, guided you to your feet. It suited you, he thought to himself.
