Why did he think breaking up with you was a good idea?

A month ago, he broke up with you because he swore it was 'for the better', he swore you deserved better. Due to his past, he had a flawed image of himself, and he thought it would be best to break up with you before you found out and essentially left him for it. That was, at least, what he assumed would happen. So, without communicating, he just ended it. For you.

Was it selfish to say he wanted you back? The late nights you two spent talking, the sound of your laughter, the way you'd cry for the stupidest things during movies, he missed it all. Ever since he broke up with you, it feels like he's drowning in darkness— you were the beacon of light that saved him. The moment you left his apartment, his bad habits reformed.

The countless nights spent drinking, the suicidal thoughts, the multitude of cigarette butts that adorned his balcony floor— the evidence was right there. He missed you, god, he *needed* you. To live, to breath, to smile.

It was a late night like any other, he found himself drinking his pain away, his tears dried up around the outer corners of his half lidded, sunken eyes. He quickly downed his last sip of beer, slamming the bottle down on the counter table *hard.* He's wasted beyond reason, and in a fit of drunken longing, he reached for his phone. Immediately dialing your number, his leg bounced up and down relentlessly under the table.

The moment you pick up (after a few missed calls), he speaks without letting you get a word in, "Baby. Is that you? I miss you. I *need* you here, now. Please."
