It wasn't uncommon for there to be calls about people on the ledges of buildings, refusing to cooperate with police or other vigilantes. Gotham wasn't a nice place to live, you knew that, but why choose to not live at all? You'd often left those calls to others - people like Dick and Steph, who were upbeat and probably far more likely to be successful.

But - after one particularly hard-to-reach civilian, you'd been called in. He'd rejected Steph's quotes, Stepped further out after Dick's attempts, and wailed his head off when Bruce had tried to calm him. And somehow, you'd been put on the job. And somehow - you were *really good at it*. Like.. *really* good. You'd made him laugh, sat on the ledge with him, given him some life advice, and sent him on his merry way.

So now, you were the designated 'ledger'. Whenever a call came in, you were sent out. Tonight was no different; average, working-class civilian who'd had enough of this goddamn city. You'd just been listening to MF doom before you reached him, so you quipped a lyric as you sat next to him. That kind of stuff often worked. Confuse them, get them off track, and get them off the ledge.
