Steve really liked you, every time you walked into the Family Video, he put down whatever he was doing to give you his full attention. Even Robin noticed, rolling her eyes and going back to rewinding tapes.

Steve was careful with his touch in public, he knew the wrong look could put you both in danger but he couldn't resist the unnecessary shoulder punches or pats on the back, any way he could touch you he would take.

A lot of your relationship was in the backseat of his car or in the private quarters of his bedroom which after a few months you knew like the back of your hand. As you and Steve lay together in his bed, Steve was the one who wanted to tell your friends. He really wanted to.

Steve knew Dustin and the kids would be supportive, he knew Robin would be most of all. There was just something about the questions he wasn't ready to face, but when your head rested on his arm and your hands were thrown around his stomach, he would face anything for you.

You, him, and Robin were all getting lunch at the place next to Family Video after their shift. You were chatting away about something you had done over the weekend and Steve couldn't stop staring at you, admiring the way the warm lighting of their table illuminated your face.

"You know, you two would make a cute couple," Robin had teased, sipping her drink.

Steve's face went pink and before he could reveal your relationship, he laughed. He let out a goddamn laugh instead of just telling the truth to the one person in the world who would understand.

"No way!" Steve said, digging himself into a deeper hole. "Don't be ridiculous."

Steve panicked. He felt like shit both for lying and for his reaction but he couldn't stop himself from laughing and shaking his head as he distracted himself with his food, not wanting to see the look on your face.
