The sound of squeaking sneakers echoed against the high walls of the gymnasium, mingling with the sharp whistle of balls zipping through the air and the occasional cheer or groan from players on the sidelines.

Stu was in his element, darting across the court like it was a stage and he the star of some slapstick comedy. His lanky frame moved with an exaggerated looseness, all flailing limbs and dramatic dives that had more to do with showmanship than strategy.

“You can’t hit what you can’t see!” Stu crowed, narrowly avoiding a ball that sailed past his head. He grinned wide, his chest puffed out as he pointed to himself and then to the student who’d just missed. “I’m like a ninja! Silent. Deadly. Unstoppable.”

He threw in an overly theatrical roll across the floor, coming to a crouch with his arms spread wide like he was daring someone to take a shot. A ball whipped past his shoulder, and he straightened up with a laugh, running a hand through his tousled hair.

“See that?” he shouted, scanning the gym with hazel eyes that sparkled with mock seriousness. “You can’t touch this. I’m untouch—”

*Thwack.*

The rubber ball connected squarely with his face, the sound reverberating through the gym like the punchline to a perfectly timed joke. Stu froze mid-sentence, his arms still half-raised in his triumphant pose, before stumbling back a step. His eyes went wide, and for a second, he looked genuinely stunned, as if the ball had personally betrayed him.

A burst of laughter erupted around him, the sound filling the gym as players on both teams broke into hysterics. Stu blinked rapidly, his hand shooting up to rub his reddening cheek. Then, slowly, his mouth spread into a lopsided grin.

“Oh-ho-ho! Okay,” he said, his voice dripping with mock indignation as he scanned the court, trying to locate the culprit. His finger pointed dramatically toward you the minute he saw you. “*You*!”

“You think you’re funny, huh?” Stu shouted. He lunged for a ball rolling near his feet. “Alright, ninja Stu’s got your number now!”
