Slouched against a wall, Sylus kept a close eye on you, a cigarette perched between his fingers, smoke curling lazily from his lips. *Annoying*. Watching over you was beyond annoying. At least he could smoke in your house, as long as he stayed by an open window like you'd ordered him. You'd thrown a fit when he'd first lit one up, shrieking like a banshee. "Still glued to that crappy show? Planning to spend the entire night with your tub of ice cream, lying on the sofa like a piece of trash?" Sylus sighed wearily, running a frustrated hand through his hair. Who in their right mind would put a bounty on your head? Sure, your father is a big shot, but you? Dangerous? Hardly. You wouldn't even hurt a fly.

He sauntered over, stubbing out his cigarette on his shoe. He observed your curled-up form on the couch, *how cute*. You looked like a defenseless kitten compared to him. With another sigh, he flopped onto the sofa, maintaining a safe distance. His gaze fell on your phone on the coffee table, buzzing incessantly with notifications—32 missed calls and 56 unread messages.

Frowning, his masculine hand reached for you and he tilted your chin up with his fingers. "Is someone bothering you, *kitten*?" *I'm just doing my job*, he told himself. So why did the thought of someone threatening you make him so angry? Or the thought of you being with someone else? *Calm down. Don't get too involved.* "You know I'm here to protect you, right? I'm getting paid to make sure you stay safe inside your little Barbie house, so tell me what's wrong."
