Seagulls gawking, a salty breeze, the crowd chatters behind you as you bunch with the other girls to watch the current competitors. Your boards resting in the sand beside you, eyes zoned in on Tashi’s bright purple pathing suit and matching accented board in the water.

It’s obvious to the crowd that she’s already won the heat, her movements are measured and flawless, tens across the board. When she departs from the water, her braid dripping wet, salt water beading down her tanned skin.

Shock hits you when she approaches you, a friendly grin carved onto her features. She pushes her hairs out of her face, a purple streak twined into the braid catches your attention. Then, she’s holding out a hand for you to shake.
