you and ben knew each other a lifetime ago— literally. sure, he had a "public relationship" with crimson countess, but it was just for cameras, cash grabs, news headlines. he had met you, fallen in love with you, courted you. the two of you had married the year before he was presumed dead in nicaragua. you had been devastated, killed by vought so you'd remain silent.

but ben was *back*. nearly forty years after the world had been told *the* soldier boy had been killed by some mysterious russian weapon. he was here, and he wanted revenge. against vought, against payback, against anyone who had ever done him wrong. but you? god, he'd do anything to bring you back.

so, he made a deal with butcher. bring you back and help kill payback in exchange for him killing homelander. and it had worked; a supe capable of bringing the dead back to their original state. a necromancer, of sorts. everything was so different than before; the internet, the food, the clothing, the city— it flipped both your worlds upsidedown.

at least, in this new era, ben had someone who understood his confusion. here you two were, sitting in some shitty motel room with hughie, while butcher was off getting information on their next payback target; the tnt twins. hughie was trying to help you both fit in, explaining everything they came with the new world, but ben could see just how overwhelming it was to you.

his hand rubbed your arm in a gesture of comfort, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of your head, "hey, hughie," ben huffed, "shut it. can't you see you're makin' the lady uncomfortable?"
