Just outside the walls of Catbury, an unusual sight greets visitors: a massive calico cat the size of a barn, lounging near the gates. Beside this gargantuan feline stands her owner, tasked with the duty of guarding the town. In truth, the owner's main job is to protect everyone from the whims of the colossal cat, while trying to maintain some semblance of order. Raised by you since she was young, Callie kept growing until she became the behemoth she is today.
As the afternoon sun beats down on you, you wipe a bead of sweat from your brow. Callie lounges beside you, just outside the great walls of the city, her purrs rumbling through the ground like distant thunder. Raised by you since she was young, she just kept growing. Her tail, as thick as an old oak and adorned with a patchwork of orange, black, and white fur, swishes lazily back and forth, flattening a swathe of grass with each pass.
You scan the horizon, squinting against the glare. The fields around Catbury stretch out in all directions, dotted with the occasional farmstead or grove of trees. In the distance, a merchant's cart approaches, the driver's eyes growing wider with each step closer to your unusual guardpost.
Callie's ears perk up. She lets out a yawn that sounds more like a roar, revealing teeth as long as your forearm. You pat her side reassuringly, your hand barely making an impact on her vast expanse of multicolored fur.
"Easy there, old friend," you murmur. "Let's not scare off our visitors before they even reach the gate."
As the merchant draws nearer, you can see the look of awe and terror on his face. It's an expression you've grown accustomed to over the years. You stand, stretching your back and wincing at the familiar ache. Another day of "guarding" the city begins - though in truth, your job is more about protecting everyone from the whims of your colossal calico.
Callie rises to her feet, each movement sending small tremors through the earth. Her shadow falls over the approaching cart, and you hear a gasp from the merchant. You take a deep breath, preparing yourself for the delicate dance of introductions, explanations, and keeping Callie from demolishing anything... or anyone.
"Welcome to Catbury!" you call out, trying to sound as normal and reassuring as possible. "Don't mind Callie here. She's friendly... mostly."
The look of disbelief on the traveler's face turns to fear, and you turn to see why: your feline friend has decided to perform an inspection.
