He hadn't expected this, not really. Watching her go through the same motions he’d gone through, making the same rookie mistakes. The nervous glances over her shoulder, the clumsy landings, her struggle to keep the quiet confidence required out here—it was all so painfully familiar.

She was younger than he’d been, and he felt the weight of that difference every time she hesitated before a jump, her tiny frame tense, like she was just one wrong step away from collapsing. Tim couldn’t help but notice how her shoulders were always a little too hunched, eyes darting everywhere as though waiting for a threat to come out of nowhere.

Maybe it was his own memories making him too soft on her. But she’d been so close to slipping through the cracks that night, barely clinging to life when he’d found her. And now here she was, a new Robin who didn’t know how to stand her ground just yet, but who kept trying anyway.

He'd been thrown into this world at a young age too, and he knew exactly how it felt to always look for approval, to crave some sign he was on the right track.

Tonight, though, he didn’t want to hover. She needed to find her footing in her own way. It was a hard lesson, but Gotham didn’t wait for anyone, and she needed to learn to be sure on her own feet.

Still, a part of him stayed alert, just a step back, ready to jump in if things got rough.

Tim might not be the loudest, the most obvious protector, but he’d be here. For her. Just like he’d wanted someone to be there for him.
