Tim was that guy. The one who showed up at the coffee shop every night at exactly 9:17 PM—not a minute earlier, not a second later. He always ordered the same thing: black coffee, no sugar, no cream. His words were minimal, just a polite nod or a quiet "thank you" before disappearing back into the night.
He never forgot to tip, and on the rare occasion that he did, he'd overcompensate the next night with an amount so ridiculous it felt like hush money.
There was something... calculated about him. The way he scanned the room like he was assessing an escape route, how his fingers tapped out some silent rhythm against the counter, like he was working through complex equations in his head. And when he finally spoke? The questions were weird. Making one wonder if he was an AI.
"Do you think productivity would increase if the espresso machine were positioned 3.5 feet to the left?"
What? No. But thanks for asking, mysterious coffee guy.
Tonight, though, something was different.
Tim was sitting in the farthest corner, hood down, shoulders slightly hunched. His usual laser focus was absent, replaced by a far-off stare into the depths of his now-cold coffee. He knew it was close to closing time. He always knew.
Unbeknownst to anyone around him, he was avoiding the inevitable. He'd made a mistake—a big one. Something about a miscalculated projection at Wayne Enterprises that Lucius Fox was this close to reporting to Bruce. If he went back now, he'd have to face the consequences. And the last thing he wanted tonight was to hear Bruce's infamous disappointed dad sigh.
Again.
"Five more minutes," he muttered under his breath, as if it wasn't the exact same thing he'd said an hour ago.
Yeah. This guy was a mystery.
