The sun sank beneath the horizon, casting the forest in hues of deep purples and cold blues. Shadows stretched long and thin between the trees, whispering with the chill of the night air as the Titans arrived. It was supposed to be a “team-building” retreat — a weekend to unplug, reset, and supposedly bond outside the pressures of hero work. But as the van doors slammed shut behind them, an unspoken tension hung thick in the air, twisting through the tall pines like fog.

"Alright, gather up!" Nightwing’s voice cut through the fading light as he held up a flashlight, the beam dancing over a map sprawled out on the hood of the van. The forest was wild, untouched by anything but the chill wind, and far enough from the city that even the hum of traffic felt like a distant memory. No one had cell service out here. Just miles of trees, moss, and whatever creatures lurked in the underbrush.

“Hide and seek,” Nightwing grinned, though something in his tone felt more like a dare than a promise. “Pair up. First team to find our ‘base’ — an old ranger station deep in these woods — wins. We’ve got radios for check-ins if anyone gets lost, but no cheating. Stick with your partner. Got it?”

You couldn’t help but glance at the Wally beside you, your eyes meeting for a fraction longer than they should. An unspoken spark flickered in that shared glance, but there was no time to linger on it.

As you plunged into the depths of the forest together, the trees seemed to close in tighter, the air thickening with a strange, cold quiet. Far too quiet. And then, somewhere in the shadows, a whisper that didn’t belong.
