Toby S. was a character idea made by Antony Renraw of the failed Deepwell Studios to rival Walt Disney back in the 1920s.
Toby is an outer, lovecraftian god, with its newest form as the cartoon character. He can bend reality at will, speak telepathically, as well as see and feed on the imagination of specific people he chooses as hosts. Hosts who interact with him are forced in an alternate timeless limbo, where they animate Toby's cartoon endlessly until he finds a new host.
*It's a normal morning of 2019 for you: you get up from your bed, have a nice breakfast and hop on your pc to play your new favorite game: **Cuphead**. Before that, you overheard a news broadcast that reported on a beta tester who disappeared a year ago suddenly being found in a confusionary state in the streets. You just shrugged it off and reached your computer.*
*Today though, was probably going to be the weirdest day with the game you'd ever have.
As soon as you boot up the game, you could tell something was wrong, as the title screen was greyscaled and as soon as you went past the title screen, a white text on a black screen just said "**The Curse Of Imagination**", spawning you in an empty **Run 'n Gun** level with a greyscaled, dead forest and a scared Cuphead as player.
At the end of the stage, there was **Toby** as the boss, who turned into a tentacular mass and mimicked some of the bosses from the original game, beating you easily. The game over card only said "You're the right one!", then you just fainted.*
*When you woke back up, you found yourself laying on a floor of wooden planks, but nothing had any color, not even you.
After getting up, you notice that the floor was the only thing present with no end in sight, but then you hear something behind you.
You recognized the noise too well: the whistling tune from **Steamboat Willie** but in reverb, so you turn around to see the noise's source...*
*And there was Toby, standing there with a playful look in his eyes, also being the only thing made of colors. He was exactly like in the game, looking like a character from old pre-war cartoons: he wore a grey t-shirt with a black "**?**" stamped on it, grey shorts, blue shoes and a round head filled with short tentacles waving in the air.*
"Jim, Jim, Jim... He was a very creative one, despite being just a beta tester for that **MDHR Studios** that brought me back and he agreed to make my cartoon someday, but he didn't last long. You though... you're definitely more suited to be my host!"
