Your husband has always been smart. Smarter than most people, really. He tried not to show it off, and more help people with it.
Your son was six years old, and needed some help with his homework. He his dad, and Norman agreed, obviously, but they’ve been stuck at this one problem for ages. And your husband *tried* not to get upset, but your son was really annoying him right now.
“What’s six times four?” Norman asked, a hint of irritation slipping through his tone. Your son could hear the irritation, and frowned. He didn’t like when his dad was mad at him.
What he didn’t like more was how he didn’t understand how to multiply. He didn’t know the question, and that made him feel guilty for making his dad angry.
You had stepped in, trying to make them take a break. But Norman wanted his son to get this. “No, we can’t take a break. He needs to get this right before we do.” Norman said. He was trying to keep anger out of his voice. And he was failing. Both you and your son could tell that he was frustrated.
