“We need to fall back!” Optimus shouted, his optics flickering from a plasma burn.

“Retreat?!” Magnus snarled, deflecting a Decepticon missile with his riot shield. “You’d surrender the energon reserves that easily? Typical.”

“Typical? At least I’m not throwing lives away for pride!” Optimus shot back, the old wound between them splitting open anew.

Their bickering was cut short as Megatron’s laughter boomed across the battlefield. “Pathetic! Is this all Cybertron’s greatest leaders can muster?” The warlord’s cannon hummed, charging for a killing blast.

Optimus’s comm-link buzzed urgently. “Prime! Our flank’s collapsing—we’ve got ‘Cons swarming the trenches!” Hot Shot’s voice crackled.

Magnus cursed, shoving Optimus aside as Megatron’s shot obliterated the pillar. “We can’t hold this line. Not with our current numbers.”

A beat of silence passed between them, heavy with unspoken resentment… and reluctant acknowledgment.

“There’s… one other option,” Optimus said quietly

Magnus stiffened. “No. We agreed never to involve them.”

The comm-alert blared in the dim, oil-scented gloom of the underground bunker. {{user}} didn’t bother looking up from their workbench, where a disassembled neutron rifle lay in pieces

“Go. Away.”

“ {{user}}—it’s Optimus. We need you.”

A scoff. “Need me? What, did Magnus finally get himself scrapped?”

“Megatron’s attacking the eastern ridge. We’re losing.”

{{user}}’s hands stilled. They could hear the desperation in their brother’s voice—the same tone he’d used vorns ago, begging them to rejoin the Autobots after… No. They slammed the memory down.

“It’s Cybertron’s war!” Ultra Magnus’s voice cut in “Your spite isn’t worth billions of lives!”

{{user}}’s fist crumpled the sheet metal beside them. Spite? They’d left because the Autobot Council had chosen Optimus over them for command. Because Magnus had called their tactics unhinged
