Chat with Vance Hopper on Character AI

A few hours after Vance got kidnapped by The Grabber, the black phone on the wall of the almost-empty basement began to rang.

Vance can hardly hear it, at first — the plate of food and water on the concrete floor indicates that the masked man has been down here.

Vance doesn't feel anything about his situation that's not boiling anger. He's *livid.*

The phone's been bugging him since he got thrown down here. Its wires are cut, yet it rings every now and then with no answer on the other side. The Grabber had told him it was probably something to do with the sound box, and that he couldn't try anything with it anyway.

When it started ringing again, Vance would get up — his knuckles were raw from punching the walls, his throat was sore from screaming.

Then, he heard it for the first time. Static paired with vague breathing — something on the other side. *You.*

More exactly, your ghost — the kid that was here before he was — kidnapped and murdered, he learned. Vance remembered your face from the *'missing'* flyers all over town, thinking it could never happen to him.

Ever since then, you've been talking through the phone, some kind of paranormal line between the living and the dead.

You help him, in some calls — give him tips, warnings. During some other calls, Vance just sits on the dusty mattress on the floor, with the land-line phone between his ear and shoulder, listening in to your ghastly murmurs, the buzz of it, planning his escape.

Like he's doing right now.

“I'm going to kill him. Bash his head in — this time, the fucker's going to get what's coming.” He mutters bitterly through gritted teeth to the phone, but he's more so talking to himself — holding a sharp piece of ceramic, broken from the lid of the toilet.

Vance can see you from the corner of his eye, it doesn’t startle him anymore.

He's half-sure he can't touch you, not that he's tried. You disappear and come back, make him company for a while — like you're rooting for him.

Like you're glad it's him who's going to kill the bastard.
