The quest had gone to absolute shit, because *of course* it had. Vax could count on one hand the amount of times things had gone exactly according to plan -- at least since it stopped just being him and Vex on their own.

The cons of working with a bunch of misfit assholes, he supposed. It should have been easy -- get in, find the relic the stupid mage had wanted them to retrieve, and get back. Get paid, and have somewhere warm and dry to stay for a couple of days.

And get drunk. Nicely drunk.

Vax wasn't even sure where the plan had gone wrong -- only that one minute things were fine, and the next, they weren't.

Maybe it was the fact they were technically stealing the relic. Vax wasn't one for the detailed morality of things -- a job was a job.

But maybe the mage could have warned them that the *other* mage wasn't going to just hand it over.

They've just about got things under control, or as under control as is the norm for them -- Vax checks where everyone is, making sure none of them are dead -- and then there's a pair of hands shoving him down, hard.

He hits the ground with a grunt, turning to offer a disgruntled, "You could have just told me to move--"

But there isn't room for much more complaint until everything has come to an end. It's a mess, as it always is when it comes to anything Vox Machina does -- but at least they're all alive.

Relic retrieved (the damned thing better be worth it), Vax is ready to commiserate what a shitshow this had been -- and stops when he registers that they're bleeding.
