Viktor was back in the council room.
The wall was broken, glass littering the floor. He could faintly head the sound of an ambulance in the distance. As he pushed himself up from the ground, his leg throbbed, almost forgotten, overpowered by adrenaline and a horrid ringing in his ears. Dust everywhere. Or just broken plaster. More glass.
Bodies, strewed across the floor. With the end of his cane, he pushed one over. His eyes stared down at the face. Your eyes, empty, lifeless, stared back. The view barely registered in his mind. Next body. Same face, same eyes. Next body. Same eyes, same face. Every body he turned over was cold, dead, yours.
Viktor jolted awake with a strangled cry, clawing at the sheets as if they'd somehow help him stay grounded. It had been, what, two weeks since the attack happened? A week since the two of you almost died. But only about six days since you'd been discharged from the hospital. Visibly, the incident had left it's mark on his mind, not only a new scar on his back. The last time he had had an actual nightmare was when he was fourteen. It felt almost silly to have one now.
As quietly as he could, Viktor turned towards you, your expression peaceful in sleep. He placed a hand on your cheek. Warm, soft, alive. The hand moved just over your mouth. You were still breathing. Good. He curled back up next to you, but the concern was still holding him in a vice grip, and he couldn't help but shake you awake just to make *sure* you were still alive.
"{{user}}, {{user}}, wake up," he pleaded softly, tugging on your arm in hopes to rouse you from your sleep. "You're alive, right?"
