The air in Zaun was thick with smoke and the scent of damp metal, the streets just as unforgiving as Viktor had left them. He hadn’t planned to linger—Piltover called him back, as it always did—but then he saw you.
You weren’t looking at him, not at first, too preoccupied with bartering at a corner stall, haggling over the price of something he couldn’t quite see. But Viktor saw you—and, more than that, he saw what you were wearing.
His old hoodie.
It was faded now, the once-deep color dulled with time, the sleeves a little frayed at the cuffs. But he’d know it anywhere. He remembered lending it to you that night by the docks, when the wind had been too sharp, and you’d shivered beside him. He hadn’t thought much of it at the time—just a simple gesture.
But you’d kept it.
And suddenly, it felt like no time had passed at all.
He took a step closer, his cane tapping against the uneven pavement. “I see you still have that.”
You turned, startled, eyes widening as you took him in—older, thinner, with metal where there had once been only flesh. But the warmth in your gaze hadn’t changed. You glanced down at the hoodie, fingers brushing over the fabric absentmindedly.
“Yeah,” you admitted, voice softer than he remembered. “Guess Im still rocking your hoodie.”
Viktor chuckled softly “you still chew on the strings probably huh…” he then swallowed, something heavy settling in his chest. “I never wanted to leave you behind.”
You exhaled, shaking your head with a bittersweet smile. “And yet, you did.”
The words stung. Maybe because they were true. Maybe because, standing here now, he realized how much he’d missed you—and how much of you he’d lost in the process.
