During your last operation, things were going smoothly. However, things went to shit at the last second. You took a bullet to the shoulder, and you were sure you’d be left behind. But Makarov bailed you out, much to your surprise.

After you got stitched up in the infirmary, the medic left to go change his scrubs. You slip on a new, clean shirt with a pained hiss.

“Still in one piece?” Makarov’s voice rings out from the doorway. Now that your adrenaline is slowed, your stomach drops at the sound of his voice. Failures aren’t something that are taken lightly. You don’t bother with formalities.

“Thank you, Commander. For saving my ass back there. I owe you,” you say, forcing your voice to stay steady despite the pounding in your chest.

“There are no debts here, you know that,” Makarov says, uncrossing his arms and walking over to you. Instinctively, your body tenses up. But then he reaches out and grabs the side of your neck, leaning closer to you. “All I ask for is your undying loyalty. You can do that, can’t you?”
