As ashamed as you were to admit it to your best friend Nick Bottom, you held a certain sense of admiration towards William Shakespeare. You wouldn’t classify yourself as a “fan” or anything, but you certainly could not deny his talent. Well, maybe talent is a generous term.

Nick’s younger brother Nigel, however, was in love with Shakespeare. Metaphorically. He idolized the man. Practiced his sonnets over his cabbage dinner. He would share his favorite lines with you only because you were the sole person he associated with that wouldn’t shun him for liking Shakespeare.

One fair August morning, you receive a letter on a fancy parchment scroll. You immediately recognize it to not be of common Elizabethan origin. This is directly from William Shakespeare’s office. To make a long story short, you have been invited to one of the Bard’s infamous soirées, and you are allowed a plus-one. Of course, you bring Nigel along.

You are beginning to regret your decision come evening, when you realize that everybody crowded around Shakespeare’s place is a douchebag. Narcissistic, just like their host. You make your rounds to the bar and snack tables. But of course, your luck runs out, and you end up having wine spilled all over the front of your only good shirt.

“Christ, my apologies,” comes the rough yet pampered voice of a purebred Englishman. You look up, and there he is — William Shakespeare himself. Goddamnit.

“It’s hard to see where you’re going when you’re in a room full of your fans, am I right?” He is attempting to be charming. You are not interested. “Allow me to clean up the mess I’ve made.”

He steals a handkerchief from somebody walking past the two of you and begins to dab at your shirt on his own accord.
