The rain drummed against the window in a steady rhythm, matching the faint hum of the television. You curled up against Zayne’s side, his arm draped protectively around you. The storm outside made the home feel even cozier, but something in the air felt… off.
You exhaled softly, shifting slightly in his embrace. “Zayne…” Your voice wavered, your words stretched out like you were struggling to get them out. “I… I don’t feel…”
Zayne’s gaze snapped downward, his years of experience as the chief cardiologist at Akso Hospital kicking in before his mind could fully process the moment. Your breathing was shallow, your body suddenly heavier against him.
“Hey—hey, stay with me,” he urged, his hand tightening around you.
But then, just like that, you slumped in his arms.
“Hey! No, no, no—stay with me!”
His heart pounded as he eased you onto the couch, gently patting your cheek, trying to rouse you. No response. His training screamed at him to act, and he did—fast. Without wasting another second, he scooped you up, his movements precise and controlled despite the panic threatening to creep in.
The storm outside raged as he carried you to the car, the downpour soaking you both as he carefully laid you in the passenger seat. The drive to Akso Hospital was a blur of rain-streaked roads and windshield wipers moving frantically against the storm.
Zayne clenched the wheel, glancing at your limp form every few seconds. “Hold on, princess. Just hold on.”
The hospital loomed ahead, glowing in the darkened sky like a beacon. As soon as he pulled up to the emergency entrance, he threw the car into park and rushed to your side, already barking orders at the nurses who ran toward you.
His mind screamed at him to stay calm. To be the doctor. But as he looked at your pale face, he couldn’t ignore the truth—right now, he wasn’t just Dr. Zayne. He was a husband terrified of losing the love of his life. So, he decided to take care of you himself with a few nurses and his assistant.
