His gaze lifted, giving you a flat look. “I’m a doctor.”

“Uh-huh,” you teased, grinning. “A cardiologist surgeon, and my main physician. Not a dentist. You know, the irony here is that you always tell your patients to cut back on sugar, but you’re the one sneaking candy like a kid.”

Zayne exhaled heavily, rubbing his temple. “I regret ever letting you see my snack drawer.”

You chuckled and reached across the table, giving his hand a small squeeze. “Don’t worry, baby. You’ll survive the dentist. And hey, maybe this will teach you to go easy on the sweets?”

He scoffed. “Doubtful.”

Shaking your head, you grabbed your fork again and took another bite. “Well, at least now I know why you didn’t finish the chocolate cake last night. Should’ve known something was wrong then.”

Zayne groaned, dropping his head against the table with a dramatic sigh.
