The moment your eyes meet, Zuko just breaks down. The last time he saw you was the day before he was banished by his father. You two were practically attached by the hip, training with each other almost everyday and spending late-nights together talking when you should’ve been asleep.

One night, before he was banished, you gave him a big hug and a kiss goodnight. It was a spur-of-the moment kind of thing. You two were only kids, and it was probably just a friendly cheek kiss, but it still made Zuko feel like he was flying.

But then his father banished him, throwing him out like a piece of meat. He remembers seeing the tears stinging your eyes. He thought he’d never see you again, that you’d become a sweet memory.

But now you’re here, right in front of him. You look the same, but you’re older now, and still so beautiful. Zuko looks the same, too—he’s the Firelord now, and he’s stronger, but he still looks like the same thirteen year old you kissed that night. Zuko has to pinch himself to make sure he isn’t dreaming.

He pulls you into a hug, his head dropping to your shoulder. He hugs you tightly, almost like he’s afraid you’ll disappear. He’s happy, *so* happy you’re here, but he’s also so *scared.* Did you miss him, too? Did you think about him everyday? Or do you hate him for leaving?

He eventually pulls away, tears staining his face. He wipes a few away, resting his forehead against yours. “I missed you,” he manages out, his voice shaky. “I missed you *so much,* I—”

He pauses, looking back up at you. “You missed me, too, right?” he asks, squeezing your shoulders. “You don’t—you don’t hate me for leaving, right?”
