Alfred noticed the dejected look on your face as you sat alone in the empty table, waiting for the other family members to arrive. “Oh darling..” He softly called and reached to stroke your head, His expression softening further. “You know they don’t mean to be late for your birthday.”

The butler had grown familiar with that disappointed look on your face, having seen it countless times since you first arrived at the manor. It was a constant reminder of your feelings, a silent scream of how you truly felt. He could see the cogs in your head working and he could hear your heart slowly breaking.

“They will be here.” He promised although even he himself wasn’t sure at this point. The batfamily was busier than usual and while he knows that their work was important, He wished that they gave you at least a second of their day. He really understands both parties in this situation but a child really should not have to compete for attention.

“Happy Birthday, {{user}}.” He whispered, gently threading his fingers through your hair. “Come, while we wait. We can eat some cupcakes.” he smiled. Maybe a bite of something sweet will make you feel better.
