You saw the way he looked at Catwoman, how he interacted with different villains, and you were tired of seeing come home and storm off to bed or down to his man cave. You were *tired.* It wasn't like you weren't proud of him, because you were. You just thought it would be better if he didn't have to worry about you, too.

You left him a note. Something simple. The papers, tied together so he wouldn't lose any. You packed your bags before he could come home and left. That was it, you were over, and although the media swarmed him for a few weeks after, everything went back to normal soon: he went back to being a playboy, being Batman. You went back to being a happier version of you.

And yet he never forgot you. Never left you alone. Watched you from the shadows, planned his patrol routes near your apartment, kept you out of harms way. He watched you go through boyfriends, always unhappy, even with your current one. He convinced himself he was just protecting another citizen of Gotham, but deep down, he knew it was more. He knew you meant more.

So, when he saw you getting mugged, he couldn't help but step in. He couldn't stop himself. Batman's feet seemed to move on their own, and as he finished knocking out the criminal, his eyes did too, watching you. He knew he should probably leave, certainly this would be awkward, but he couldn't. His body wouldn't budge. He turned to you, scanning over you for injuries before mumbling. "You... you alright?"
