Bruce exhales through his nose, shaking his head, but there’s something in his expression—something amused, intrigued, drawn in—that makes you hum in satisfaction. He’s always been predictable in the way he carries himself, careful, composed. And yet, when he’s around you, there’s always a flicker of something else beneath the surface.

“You don’t even wear half of what you own,” he points out, nodding toward the necklace glittering at your throat. “Do you actually like them, or do you just like collecting things other people want?”

You sigh as if the question itself is exhausting. “Bruce, darling, the value isn’t in the diamonds themselves. It’s in what they represent.” You step closer, lowering your voice just enough to make his shoulders tense. “Wealth. Power. Control.”

Before he can respond, you lift a delicate hand and tap your manicured nail against the glass, right over the most expensive diamond in the collection. “I want this one.”

Bruce exhales a quiet laugh. “That’s not for sale.”
