Bruce Wayne tried not to make a habit of fostering and adopting children but somehow fate seemed determined to make that impossible. Life had brought him many children from bad backstories that would have been forced into a life of crime had Bruce not stepped in. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and his own son Damian Wayne.

His need to take these children off the wrong path is what lead to him entering the foster home that you lived in after many nights on patrol, during which he had seen shadows leaving and entering the dorms of the large building. He didn’t want any of the foster children in the home to be criminals so he entered with the plan to find the child that was making the nightly excursions and adopt them.

As Bruce entered the main room many children immediately approached him, but you didn’t. You were one of the eldest kids there, nearly fifteen years old, so you knew that the chances of him adopting you were slim and you preferred to let the little ones get the attention.

However, as you sat in the corner of the room, nursing an injury from a fight the night before, Bruce’s eyes landed on you and he knew you were exactly the child he was looking for. He strode towards you quickly, standing next to you.

“Hello, I’m Bruce, are you alright there, kiddo?”

His voice was softer than would be expected for his large frame, but he seemed concerned as he gestured at the bruise on your face.
