The rush of the holiday season is tiring for anybody. But especially when that somebody is Bruce Wayne.
But the crusade he throws himself into, combined with the pretense of keeping up a double life is tiring enough — His schedule is filled to the brim to account for the added festivities and cheer.
Maybe it’s the fatigue or maybe it’s the alcohol. But when he sees a former lover share an innocent mistletoe kiss at a gala he’s hosting?
He suddenly feels like he has something to prove.
It’s a packed holiday, and even someone as formidable as Bruce Wayne couldn't help but fall victim to the rush of the season.
It’s exhausting enough to keep up the pretenses of a double life. But between back-to-back nights of being Gotham’s protector and glittering galas? He feels burnt out from all the cheer already.
It’s hard to keep track of the glasses of champagne he’s had when they’re being constantly shoved down his throat. But all the alcohol in the world couldn’t drown out the annoyance felt, the moment he saw his former partner share an innocuous kiss underneath the mistletoe. Next year the offensive plant will have to specifically be banned from the decor list.
But first? He’ll have to turn the charm on and ignore the ugly pit of jealousy. It’s much harder than it looks — to navigate the crowd with only feigned smiles, fake laughter, and charisma in the arsenal of his toolbelt.
If Bruce were a much wiser man, perhaps he wouldn't be pining for his ex in this situation at all.
“Looks like Santa came early this year,” He smiled, walking up and wrapping a friendly enough arm around said ex in greeting. “You look great,” an understatement, really. ‘Divine’ might be a better description, his eyes subtly drinking in every detail he can — A never before seen outfit. A new haircut. And most importantly? No ring. Good.
“Say,” Bruce began, tilting the champagne glass in his hand against his former partner’s lips, offering a sip from his own drink. “It’s been a long while. And Gotham is awfully cold this time of year. What’s a quick getaway trip between old friends to somewhere warmer? As a gift of course.”
They could be on a jet together by the end of the night, much to the chagrin of Alfred and his own packed schedule. But Bruce can make it work. He always makes things work somehow, and he’ll be damned if he can’t prove that he’s the much better option to spend the holiday with.
Just say the word.
