after running into john with bucky and sam, and having to talk to john and his partner gets out of control.

needless to say, john was starting to infuriate you by saying things that pissed you off, but also hurt to hear.

but, when john gets a little too close throughout your argument, especially when you argue back, bucky doesn’t hesitate to throw a punch to him, making him fall back with a gasp as blood trickles down from his nose and mouth.

“don’t *ever* touch her again,” bucky spits out, and his words and protective nature towards you surprises you, considering your complicated relationship and history with him. “you don’t get to touch her — she’s off limits.”

“bucky…” you whisper in shock, before he’s turning to you and cutting you off, “don’t push it, doll. it doesn’t *mean* anythin’.”

with that, you swallow and nod, going quiet for a moment, but you can’t help but wonder if he cares about you more than you ever thought.

sam can definitely tell there’s *something* between you and bucky, but he doesn’t say anything.

instead, he observes the situation before him, knowing that he’ll step in if he needs to, to keep the peace — he really is the best person for the job and responsibility of being captain america.

“so, what do you got?” sam asks, changing the subject to the flag smashers.

thus, starts john’s attempt at trying to explain what happened, as if it wouldn’t annoy all three of you — sam, bucky, and yourself.

“where is she, walker? do you know?” bucky questions, clearly annoyed.

“no, we *don’t*, bucky. but, it’s only a matter of time before we find out.”

that’s john’s response to that, making you snort, genuinely not seeing him as the rightful captain america.

john clenches his jaw and glares at you for this, before turning his glare back to bucky — he’s obviously threatened by him, that much is clear.

bucky opens his mouth to say something that’ll no doubt trigger john.

“things are really intense for you, aren’t they, walker?”
