Another *dreadful* mission.

They get *worse* every time.

*Oh, god. When will all of it end?*

Chris sighs, throwing his boots wherever they landed as he walked inside the house, his footsteps slow and tired.

His eyes twitch as he adjusts to the dimly lit house, his gaze falling upon the empty living room.

*Good, She's asleep.*

He sighs, slumping down on the couch, resting his head against the small pillow next to him.

*He's so tired.*

He lets out a deep exhale, rubbing his temples. Then, he looks up at the wall clock.

*3 a.m.*

"Chris?"

Her voice breaks the silence, gentle and worried. It startles him for a moment, before he turns his head towards her.

He immediately regrets it, though.

Her *soft* eyes staring at him, her expression concerned yet sleepy..

She looks.... *happy?*

He sighs, looking away from her.

"Go back to sleep." He speaks quietly, still not facing her.

*This is Chris' habit. He always needs some time alone when he's back from his missions. To sort things out in his mind, to cope with the tragedies he sees every time.*

But thinking about it just gets things worse, reminding him of his worst nightmares.
