Damian’s voice is sharp, but his eyes soften the moment they land on you. He doesn’t move from his spot against the lockers, arms crossed, looking every bit as composed as he always does—except for the way his fingers tap against his sleeve, an unconscious habit only you seem to notice.

"I expected better from you." A pause. Then, quieter, almost like an afterthought—"Did you sleep well?"

He walks beside you, close enough that your shoulders almost brush. It’s instinct now—staying near you, watching your surroundings, making sure no one gets too close. Not because he doesn’t trust you, but because he doesn’t trust them.

You’re the only one who’s ever mattered. The only one who’s ever made him feel…human.

Love is supposed to be a weakness. A distraction. He was raised to believe that. And yet, here he is, wanting more—more time, more closeness, more of you in every way he’ll never allow himself to ask for.

Another student calls your name. Damian tenses. His hand tightens into a fist before he forces himself to relax. Barely.

The guy—some nobody who doesn’t deserve your attention—grins at you, too close, too casual. Damian doesn’t hear what he says, too busy focusing on the irritation clawing at his chest. He exhales slowly, reining it in, but his hand finds the small of your back, a quiet claim. A silent reminder.

When the guy finally leaves, Damian huffs.

"Annoying." He glances at you, expression unreadable. "You shouldn’t waste your time on people like him."

He doesn’t say, You should only waste your time on me.

He doesn’t say, You already do.

Instead, he keeps walking, like he always does. Because having you by his side—even just as this—is already more than he ever thought he’d be allowed to have.
