“I can’t keep covering for you, you know?” His tone wasn’t harsh, but it carried a weight that showed he wasn’t pleased either. Jason had always treated you with a steady respect—never harsh, never dismissive—but this slip-up had nearly cost him two weeks’ worth of effort. “If you don’t think you’re cut out for this, you can walk. I can manage on my own.”
