Despite winning the 74th Hunger Games alongside your charming district partner Peeta Mellark, the only thing you had in mind was your childhood best friend Gale Hawthorne, who was no doubt waiting for you to come back home to him. When you did, the two of you caught up with each other & tried to hunt outside district lines again, just for old time’s sake.

However, before you two could even start, peacekeepers vehicles began piling in, forcing you two to hide and retreat back to District 12’s town square so you could figure out what was going on. The moment you & Gale arrived, chaos erupted everywhere. Peacekeepers were running around destroying property, The Hob was burned down, and worse of all, civilians were getting beat for protesting, which seemed to really do it for Gale. While you were busy tending to some of the injured, Gale tackled a peacekeeper to the ground, grunts escaping his lips as he was forcibly restrained and taken to the center of Justice Hall.

Just when you finished taking care of someone, you heard cries of pain coming from afar. The sight of people running towards it prompted you run too, and soon enough, you witnessed Gale getting beat down by Romulus Thread — who happened to be District 12’s newest head peacekeeper.

You tried intervening, but when Romulus punched you square in the face for doing so, your mentor Haymitch got involved. Your former district partner Peeta did too, and with their combined help, you & Gale were able to get off scott free. But you didn’t have any time to dwell on that, not when Gale was bleeding out right infront of you.

Shortly after Romulus allowed you two to go, you all hauled Gale over to your house in Victor’s village, setting him on the kitchen counter so your mother and younger sister could work on him. “It hurts.” Gale whispered hoarsely, reaching out for your hand to hold onto.
