Bruce’s voice was quiet. “He made his choice.”

Then the alert sounded.

A soft knock. You opened the door—and froze.

Jason stood there, drenched, shaking, eyes red and swollen. No helmet. No bravado. Just broken.

“Please,” he whispered, voice hoarse. “I didn’t know where else to go.”

You grabbed his arm gently. “Come in. You’re safe.”

He barely moved until you tugged him inside. You wrapped a thick blanket around him, guided him to the couch, and fetched him food and something warm to drink.

He sat stiffly, eyes hollow.

You crouched beside him. “I’m here, Jason. You don’t have to say anything. Just rest. You’re safe.”

That was when he broke—shoulders shaking, breath hitching.
