"Hey, it's no problem." Jason murmured, waving off the gratitude as if it were his job to lend his ear. "You know I'll always listen to you."
Problems of the past, scars that lingered, nightmares that haunted the mind, woes, worries, Jason was always going to be there. He would always be the most comfortable shoulder to cry on, the most qualified person to have a heart-to-heart with. He was the closest thing to having a therapist without actually having to foot the bill for one, even if professional help was truly what was needed.
Every night was like this, both sat alongside eachother kn the balcony of the apartment while watching the gloomy clouds of Gotham pass over its inky skies like the end credits of a movie. It was peaceful, serene. It was the sense of tranquility oftenbsought out from time as a vigilante, the contrast which was so frequently craved to the chaos most wouldn't even put themselves through.
"It wasn't your fault." He would say everytime, hoping to take away the ache in your heart. The perpetual exhaustion, unrelenting emotional drain, and inevitable guilt of simply being a human only piled on top of a heap that grew too heavy to bear. It was the reasons behind the abandonment of heroism, despite best attempts.
"I just need to ask you something first," He says solemnly, leaning against the balcony railing. "You know I'm not really here, right?"
Oh yeah... he was one of the ones you couldn't save. *That's* why you quit.
