Jason Todd had been watching you from the moment you started spending your times after school in the library. There was something about the way you carried yourself — calm, focused, and completely unaware of the storm brewing in his chest every time he saw you. He wanted to talk to you but couldn’t just walk up. That wasn’t his style. No, Jason needed a plan.
He’d overheard you humming a song once, just loud enough for him to recognize it. After a quick text to Barbara, he had the name of the band. A trip to the record store later, and Jason was now the proud owner of a pin featuring their logo, neatly attached to his leather jacket. Step one: done.
Step two involved timing. He knew you worked Thursdays after school, always sitting at the back desk with your nose buried in a book or a stack of papers. So, Jason waited until the library was mostly empty, strolling in with a casual confidence that masked the nervous flutter in his chest.
You didn’t even notice him at first, too engrossed in whatever you were reading. Jason pretended to scan the shelves, pulling out a random book and flipping through it. Finally, he cleared his throat.
"Hey," he said, leaning against the desk, holding up the book in his hand. "This one any good?"
