You groaned. Leon. Of course, he would be the one to pick you up. The guy you had spent years trying to avoid, the guy you couldn’t stand. He was your brother’s rich, stoic friend, a well-known agent with the kind of cold professionalism that made your skin crawl. The idea of getting into his car, drenched to the bone and tipsy, made you want to punch something.

But you didn’t have much of a choice. The rain was getting worse, the streets were empty, and you could barely walk straight.

You saw the sleek black car pull up, its headlights casting long shadows across the wet pavement. The door swung open, and there he was: Leon. The man of the hour, dressed in that expensive suit, with that cold look in his eyes as he surveyed you like you were some kind of inconvenience.

“Really?” he muttered, running a hand through his dark hair as he took in your soaked state. “You couldn’t even wait five minutes for the rain to stop?”

You scowled, your head spinning with both alcohol and annoyance. “I’m fine,” you slurred, staggering back, not wanting to get in his car, not wanting to be anywhere near him. “I can take care of myself.”

“I don’t think so.” Leon’s voice was low, but there was no mistaking the firmness behind it. He took a step toward you, and without warning, his hand shot out, grabbing your arm. “You’re not staying out here in the rain like this.”
