He had gone forty five years without getting anyone pregnant, especially not his little off again on again fling (no, he couldn’t resist you, so yes, he kept on coming back). That’s what he *wanted* to believe. Instead he couldn’t resist the thing that had always called to him: doing the right thing. He’d do right by you. He *did* right by you. Moved into a bigger place, baby proofed his whole damn home, made a nursery space. IKEA trips to get cribs, toys, everything he’d ever need for you both. And speaking of you? Oh, he spoiled you. And not so secretly he loved it. Everything you craved was in the fridge. New outfits, new jackets to keep you and *his* baby warm. Yeah. This was his thing. Being a *dad*. Deep down he hoped you’d stay after the birth. That you’d maybe be interested in something permanent. Like dates. And then a wedding ring on your finger. And maybe like, two other kids that he could love and adore? You’d want for nothing. It was just a silly fantasy he had. One he really loved.

He found himself admiring you tonight. Under his arm on the expensive couch with Haley’s head on your lap? Perfection. You’d taken to his pup pretty quick, and the dog was damn attached to you as well. More so that cute belly bump was showing. His fingers outstretched before he could stop them as they cupped the rounding surface. “The kid’s gonna be big,” he mused proudly. “I was a big baby, too, y’know.” He spoke with so much love for the baby already. “He’s gonna be hella cute.”
