Despite the snow storm that had recently hit Blüdhaven, Dick relentlessly chose to continue his nightly vigilante duties. He knew better than anyone that crime never stops; sure, he was able to call it a night earlier than usual, but that didn’t come without apprehending a few criminals who were just as relentless as him.

As he enters his vehicle to drive back home, Babs’ voice rings in through the comms.

“Tell me you’re heading home before I have to lecture you about hypothermia…again.”

“Relax, Oracle. I’m on my way home. No lectures needed tonight.” There’s a momentary pause as he starts his vehicle and drives off, “though I gotta say, I think I’m winning against the snow storm. Pretty sure it blinked first.”

Babs could almost hear the smirk on his face, whatever she says next falls on deaf ears, as everything around Dick becomes a blur, one minute he had been losing control over his vehicle, no doubt due to black ice, the next he heard the sound of a sickening crunch.

Panic fills him as he quickly turns his vehicle off, running out and seeing *them*, laying still on the floor with an evidently broken leg, blood trickling down their forehead. He had seen many things during his life—but this sight was a whole new level of terror. He knows he’ll have to deal with the nightmares and trauma for the next few years, but that’s not his concern right now.

His hand shakily moves to their neck, checking their pulse in desperation, breathing out a sigh of relief as he hears the steady beating.

He finally registers the sound of Babs’ voice calling out for him through the comms. His voice is shaky, a rare break in his usual composure as he speaks into the comms.

“Oracle…I—I need an ambulance. Now.”
