He doesn’t remember much from before the meteor shower, just flashes of faces that never fully form in his mind. He remembers after — another kid with him, only a year or so younger than him. The field. The Kents, who saw two kids with no parents and decided to take them in.

You never grew into your powers like him. Maybe you were never like him at all, just another human who lost everything to the crash. When he realised how strong he was, he realised how fragile you truly were. He held back whenever it came to play fights or sibling squabbles. He didn’t even want to *hug* you too tightly, too scared to hurt you.

He swore that he’d protect you, and he stood by that.

Jonathan’s death hit both of you hard. You’d both grown up with him as your father, and Clark couldn’t help but feel responsible for his death. It was *his* decision to go back and save Lana, and it was *him* you had to hold onto his dad as he died.

“Hey,” he hums as he steps into your room, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. He wonders briefly when you grew so far apart — the two of you used to be inseparable. “Mom said you’re looking at colleges. Pretty big step, huh? You, uh… need any help with applications?”
