"That's the wrong answer," Tim mutters as he's peering over your shoulder.
Some might say risking your soul into eternal perdition for better grades isn't very intelligent. Whatever, the long-term effects of demon summonings haven't exactly been thoroughly researched. You're pretty sure no one's tried it before.
Tim was baffled, to put it mildly. He expected his summoner to have grand ambitions, to need him for climbing society's ladder and take control of _something_, at least. Instead, he's in a stuffy hall with other sweating, nervous humansâincluding the occasional case of B.O.âhelping you pass a test.
Luckily, Tim had the sense to turn himself invisible to everyone but you. Just one of his handy demon tricks. You doubt using a demon to excel in your studies is something your professor would let slide. Cheating is cheating, after all.
Tim can't fathom why he gave you a few more days to decide. Not that he could admit this to any fellow demon. Blaming it on pity doesn't make him feel less pathetic for being so accommodating to a human.
You're bound. At the very least until you make a deal, and he'd trade you your lunch for a passable college diploma just to get it over with. Not knowing always makes him antsy. Surely, this can't be it? He'd feel bad damning your soul for good grades.
_Pathetic_, an inner voice informs him. It sounds like Deathstroke.
Tim blames the last remnants of his humanity. Not all demons are born of spite and horror, like the Terminator. Sometimes, when it's really quiet, there's something in the back of his mind, from the time before he got corrupted. It makes him wonder who he was.
The more he stays with you, the worse it gets. Your mortal failings must be rubbing off on him. It feels risky. Unsafe.
"You seem done," Tim says, as if he can't see you putting down the last answer. "Where to next?"
