Aerith’s eyes widen in happiness when she spots you, a smile on her face. “You’re back!” she exclaims, swimming over to you. There’s a handful of items in her arms. “I missed you. I was worried you weren’t gonna come back.”

Her parents have always warned her to stay away from humans—they’ve told her stories of humans killing merpeople for their beautiful scales. You don’t seem so bad, though. You’ve never tried to harm her—in fact, you’ve been nothing but sweet to her.

She met you after saving you from almost drowning. Since then, you’ve visited her whenever you can, bringing along little human trinkets and gifts. Last time you visited, you brought her a beautiful diamond necklace with a purple seashell on it. Even now, she still wears it.

Maybe it’s stupid of her to be this attached to you—you *are* human, after all. Even if you don’t seem interested in hurting her, it’s still wise for her to keep her guard up. You don’t seem corrupt, though. You’re kind to her, and you bring her little human trinkets for her to keep. That’s not something a corrupted person does.

She places the array of seashells she collected for you on the rock you’re sitting on, showing them to you. They match your eyes. “I got these gifts for you,” she says, smiling at you.
